Orvis Fly Fishing 101 & 201

Fly Fishing offers shared experiences in wonder and adventure for friends and family. Exploring something wild and making a unique connection with nature is an inspiration.

If you're looking for a great way to get together with friends or family, attend an Orvis FF101 class and try a new activity. Fly fishing is a sport the whole family can participate in. All ages are welcome and if you’re lucky enough to be under 16 you must be accompanied by an adult.

Fly Fishing 101

FF101 introduces modern fly fishing to absolute beginners by making it accessible to everyone. Our initial 60-90 minute store-based class is regularly delivered without charge at Orvis stores across the UK from March to October. Attending an FF101 class, you can:

• Discover why fly fishing is enjoyed by today’s generation of fly fishers.

• Find out what gear you need to start fly fishing.

• Have a go at casting using Orvis Practicasters.

• Learn just how simple and fun fishing knots are.

• Look at different flies and see how easy they are to fish with.

• Find out about fishing in your local area.

• Receive great special offers and money off coupons to redeem in store.

Fly Fishing 201

If you’ve already completed the FF101 class, or if you have some previous fishing experience, you will be ready for the next step and should join FF201.

FF201 takes a more in depth look at rods, lines, tackle and casting so that you are well prepared to go fly fishing, knowing what you’d need and how to use it. This 2 hour class delivers both store-based learning and fly line casting outside. Attending an FF201 will deliver:

• Modern fly fishing in practise.

• Learning about Fly Reels and Tapered Fly Lines.

• Putting together a balanced fly rod outfit.

• Casting a fly line in an outside session.

• Comfort break / Tea, Coffee & Biscuits.

• Learning about Nylon & using Tapered Leaders.

• Knot tying session.

• Popular flies and how to fish them.

• Local fly fishing opportunities & next steps.

All equipment is provided and both classes are offered free of charge. It is essential to wear seasonally appropriate clothing if you’re attending FF201. We recommend attendees to wear head protection such as a cap and eye protection such as glasses or sunglasses during the casting session. Stores can provide caps and glasses if required.
